after i got home from school:

mom: "have you said hi to your grandma yet?"

she's smiling. at my grandmother's ashes. in a little wooden box, by a houseplant.

me: "um ... no, not yet."
mom: "say hi to your grandma!"
me: "uh ... hi grandma!"
