Walking to school in the early spring used to be always an adventure, with crocuses and daffodils (daffydowndillies, according to that one Yorkshire girl in The Secret Garden) and comfortable blankets of violets on lawns that I would like to let my pet rats jump about in. Nowadays there is nothing but swaths of gray parking lots and a kind of overall sweaty feeling from the pure angle that the sun uses to strike me down(!) and activate my glands.

Going to and fro between home and school makes me feel like I ought to be pollinating something.

I'm supposed to be doing all sorts of things, but I think I am going to bake extremely tiny chocolate chip cookies for my rats right now.
